THE GHOST I SAW WAS ME

THE GHOST I SAW WAS ME

A Poem by C. Lee Battaglia
"

* It won't escape

"

THE GHOST I SAW WAS ME

I was looking through the window

A strange thing I could see

A man moved in front of me

And dropped down to his knees

His words were very quiet

And I could hardly hear

But when he looked straight at me

The ghost I saw was me.

At first I couldn't move

And then he took my hand

He lead me through my open door

To another land

There I saw a body

Bleeding by a tree

And when I looked down at it

The ghost I saw was me.

Oh God Oh my God

Will you do this to me

I thought that you loved me

Was I too blind to see

I only try to help

I try to set them free

And now you take my life away

For all the world to see

I'm looking at myself now

And the ghost I see is me.

Loving the flow here and the repeated phrase or chorus
This is eeringly beautiful and deep especially from one so young as you

This is a great poem. I love the rhyme & rhythm & sense of suspense drawing us along. Many people write to ask "why does God let bad stuff happen?" -- here you've taken that old question & put it on it's head in a SHOW instead of ASK kind of way. I like the vagueness of the ending . . . it could be that God is punishing this narrator for doing something that wasn't right (narrator thinking he was doing his best, but actually he was doing harm) . . . OR . . . it could be that God let's bad things happen, even to people who are doing their best. There are probably other ways to interpret this, too. I love it when a poem can be interpreted in many ways (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie
