The Fireplace.

The Fireplace.

A Poem by Charlie Roswell

I stare down at the fireplace,

Where once our love set light,

Now there are only embers,

That glimmer in the night,

I long for you to hold me,

To be yours once more,

But now our love is burnt out,

Will never be like before,

I stare down at the fireplace,

At the ashes I find there,

No phoenix to rise from them,

In love not all is fair.

This is an excellent analogy. I enjoyed it much.

A great analogy for this very human experience. The thing about fire, though, is that even when we don't bother to make it, it sometimes erupts.

I am amazed by the great message, metaphors and imageries of this poem.
There could not have been a better piece for anybody who was betrayed in love.
There must have been some personal experience which triggered the thought of a precious poem like this.
My most favorite line is:
"In love not all is fair."

You have done an excellent job of using the fireplace as your inspiration for this poem. - I feel as if I am inside your head as you think and compare the dying embers and the ashes to your dying love. The last three lines are superb.

I'm a Grandfather and I do understand this poem. I go back in time where passion was the purpose of two people. Seem like a million years ago. I enjoyed how you made your point in the poem.
'No phoenix to rise from them,
In love not all is fair."
Thank you for sharing the excellent poem.

Though a couple of the lines could be improved, but you have a lovely concept. The fires of love cannot be lighted with only embers, but you need the fuel as well~
