Half Moon Rising

Half Moon Rising

A Poem by Chiquita
"

A poem about a place I find as a sanctuary.

"

Gulls dancing in free fall on invisible currents of air.
Church steeple, white and peeking out above autumns colors,
Evergreens interspersed with yellows and brilliant oranges.
Three flags on a towering flagpole, flickering north east and telling a tale.
Abandoned gray picnic tables, their season past.
High tide in it’s glory.
Gulls dipping for minnows.
Dusk ushering night into days place.
Autumn and dusk speaking boisterously of impending change,
Giving no hint whether the change is for the better or the worse.
This place is my place of reflection.
Looking inward...
Seeking knowledge, wisdom, and understanding.
Gazing outward...
Seeing change in motion.
Everything changing, every moment brand new.
Half moon rising,  Sun hiding behind t he horizon.
A mind engages in deep contemplation,
Looking inward, gazing outward...
Witnessing newness and change.

A serene and peaceful setting conducive to drinking in the beauty of Mother Nature. Gorgeous imagery in this poem. Lydia

Nice contemplative piece. Great detailed descriptions, observations without conclusions. You give us a gift by positioning the reader in this quiet place, seeing outward through your eyes, while being allowed to ponder inward on our own.

I think, perhaps, to further strengthen the dichotomy of direction, you might want to try simply "Inward..." and "Outward..." the first time, bringing it together in your terrific phrase "Looking inward, gazing outward..." at the end.

Thanks for sending this to me, it was a refreshing break to my day!

I have a few such places of my own....sometimes it is just locked in my bedroom, sitting on my bed in the quiet. I enjoyed this a lot...."looking inward, gazing outward" a fantastic phrase which I think describes perfectly what we, as writers, do so often. Taking in all that around us, and turning it inside ourselves to create such wonders as this piece. Nice job.
