viceroy phoenixes

viceroy phoenixes

A Poem by Naomi Bowe

This society is obsessed with love, true love
And yet not enough know what it is.
Some think they know
Some will never know
We raise it up high
Hoisting it upon a pedestal
Center of obsession
It's when you love for all of them, flaws and all
Because flaws are still part of who they are
When you wish you could live in a snapshot of eternity
It must hurt
To be so much more than affection
It has to consume you from the inside out and remake you anew
Scorching out everything you are
Until you rise like a phoenix
