Paradise

Paradise

A Poem by Jessica Lynn Polley

There is not time for a prologue
I am afraid we are going to have to jump right in
to an unrelenting story
that still has not seen an end
To an unforgiving battle
that cares not if you loose
right into the raging fire
that has burned so many just like you
With all these reckless rhymes I will show you
A truth not many live to see
That to seize what you heart desires
will never set you free
This life is not a fairy tail
and you simply do not get to choose
the chances and circumstances
that will be handed down to you
Bad things happen to good people
every single day
W****s bear countless children
while good women are left to prey
Each generation get a little more twisted
then the one before
Each is given a little less
and each one is expecting a little bit more
Like spending money we just do not have
this world of our is in debt
and instead of reconciliation
we just lower our standards once again
Hearing sirens every fifteen minutes
people are dying left and right
I lost a real good friend last week
I lost my best friend just last night
But we just keep on going
Mourning on the move
That is how this world works
even if it is not okay with you
The pressure keeps on building
and its never going to stop
sometime you win sometimes you loose
and it is not dependent on right or wrong
The only guarantee you have
is that someday you will die
In between you fight a million battles
you will love and loose at least a dozen time
and the only beauty out there
is in the clouds and the trees
that we pollute and tear down
to make room for the corporate thieves
It is a self fulfilling prophecy
but I am not sad anymore
I will not let it do me in
Like so many have before
I am going to stop so I can breathe
and I may get left behind
but that is okay with me
I am done looking for something I am never going to find
This is the human condition
and the only thing that I believe
Irony makes this world spin
and we fuel it with our greed
You see there is no such thing as fair
it is just a standard set way to high
There is no such thing as full capacity
only half hearted tries
Unconditional love is a joke
Because we have been conditioned from the start
to hold ourselves above all others
and to protect our selfish hearts
Happily ever after
just means after you are to late
To heed the perks of the paradise
that we destroyed yesterday.

There is just so much in this one, and it's all so true. I like how you put it together, you really make it work. This is true talent.

The contrast between what the title is and the developed poem is valuable to this piece. There are a few spelling errors which I only point out to reach out and be constructive. The message is heavy and deep and passionate. You are very talented.
