The Bell Tower—Original Urban LegendA Chapter by Steven CashThis is an original Urban Legend, inspired by an actual true account. In the town of Parkersburg, Wyoming there is a very particular New Years Eve tradition. According to local recorded history, everyone at the stroke of midnight on new years is supposed to be inside their houses. If they aren’t able to get into their houses, they simply must be indoors somewhere. A shack, or even a garage would do. Some have even stayed in their cars, although this is thoroughly discouraged. 1912 was the first recorded time these particulars were written, by Mayor Jared Wilkins. Mayor Wilkins also said that the bell tower also rung 24 times at midnight, “By an unknown entity.” The town obeyed the new years rule for years, until 1992 when three rebellious teens decided to test the validity of the age old legend. They stood out in the middle of the street, brazen, despite the pleas of their parents. They stayed there til midnight. Ever since that day, the bell tower has rung 27 times. © 2012 Steven CashAuthor's Note
