The Snake that visits me

The Snake that visits me

A Poem by Chandradhish Ghosh

I have noticed it now!

I sometimes take the pen,

When I feel a snake slip slowly inside of me.

It just comes unannounced and without a real shape

But crawls into me and my mind.

Sometimes, it comes immediately after I wake up.

Sometimes it comes and crawls in slowly from the night before.

When it comes, it remains;

It wriggles through my veins until it finds the right spot.

Then it stays silently…somewhere deep inside.

(I don’t exactly know where)

It does not cause any trouble,

It’s just that it lingers around but it never harms.

It stays for a day or more.

When it visits me,

I do everything just like other days.

Just more quietly! With a heaviness in my mind!

Most times people don’t notice

But sometimes they do.

I am almost always worried

That the snake will make me spit out some venom

And kill relationships.

I sometimes even think,

I like it that the snake visits me

I sometimes enjoy hosting it.

The snake is inside me as I write this.

May be it comes to me just so that I only write

And not spit out venom.

Written words don’t hurt as much.

Wow and Woe! Inspired by a snake to spit out venom and anti venom. It might be a dancing Cobra!. Glad to see you back writing.
