The words of the keyhole

The words of the keyhole

A Poem by Chandradhish Ghosh
"

"

I know for sure I am the most important thing,

In your material world.

Am I not?

And don’t you make a mistake…

I am singular…

I have several shapes…I have several forms

But I am always “The key hole”.

Some of you often wonder

What happens on the other side of me!

The poet knows that the moment you close the door and turn the key

The furniture start moving silently

The bed sheets fly off…take different shapes…

And dance with the pillows…

The television switches on and entertains the flower vase

The wall hangings fall down and walk on the floor

People on one photo frame talks to the other in the other photo frame

The umbrellas come out of the corner and open up

The refrigerator opens the door and lets in some warmth

Everything comes out of their place

The vegetables come running out with the fruits

The dishes come dancing with the spoons

The clothes come out of the closet

The bottles roll along in happiness

The books go and share their stories with the others

Unicorns and dragons fly inside the room

The other side of me is the fun side…

I know the more curious of you lot

Like to peep through us

Do you even know how beautiful it is on the other side of me?

Because some of you are voyeurs

Some of the more beautiful you’s seek refuge on the other side of me

They shed off their skins and bury themselves in each other

They make the purest form of art possible come alive

They forget the brutalities of your world and seek refuge in mine

Everything on the other side of me is beautiful

Oh no! Hold on to that thought…

Is everything on the other side of me really beautiful?

You all have kept me in places where you can hide your abominations

What work do I have in a bank?

Why can’t you distribute that wealth?

If you all were right…I would have no place in a jail

Why do you keep in your drawers?

Why do you keep me on your bags?

What work do I have in a car?

Is it because you all are afraid of each other?

It must be so…not all of you are right…

In fact if you all were right…I won’t exist at all.

Well done, it has a quite playful tone in the beginning with the personification of the different items behind a key hole which you used to tie quite nicely to the ending theme. The persona's we all adapt for differing situations are sort of like the items we display infront of the keyhole, yet behind that keyhole lies an entire plethora of differing elements to the human person. A keyhole can be any action or word we reveal of our inner selves. It is often up to us to organize and distribute our inner elements.

My two cents on such a sprawling topic, fantastic read.

Made me smile and frown. I liked the idea of the furniture all coming to life and the way you make a keyhole so important. It is so true and yet we never think.

Thank you Arzel for the review...and thank you for the compliment!
This is a very entertaining read, of course poets know all this! I smiled throughout....closing line is killer. I'll never look at a keyhole quite the same way again. Muchly enjoyed!

Pleasure was mine Chandradhish...
There is a frolicsome rollicking sort of feeling throughout this poem. A lesson in “don’t judge a book by its cover”. The personification of the inanimate objects in a room was great. We are all multi-faceted people and those who view us only through a keyhole have a tunnel vision view of us....they do not grasp us as full individuals. I liked this a lot. A wise life lesson.
