The lunatic

The lunatic

A Poem by Chandradhish Ghosh

The lunatic walked alone

He questioned himself,

He asked questions that no one ever did

“Would I burn the newspaper today?”

“Would I crawl under the bed and look for the unknown?”

“Would I put my hand through the hole and catch the mouse?”

The lunatic slept alone

He talked to himself,

He talked of things that no one ever did

“If I die, so will all the lives inside me.”

“I failed to count the hair on my head again.”

“I’ll sleep with my eyes open today.”

The lunatic ate alone

He listened to himself,

He heard things that no one ever did,

“I hear a fire every time I cover my ear with my finger”

“The sound fades if you itch away from your ear.”

“I wonder what makes the sound every time I gulp!”

The lunatic did not play alone

He loved to play with everyone

He played games that everyone played,

“You will not believe if I tell you that I am mad”

“You will also not believe that I only tell the truth”

“What you see is my mask…not me.”

Great! It went straight on conveying it's metaphors instead of making readers confuse on when and why this and that happened....
This lunatic is bearing the most freedom in this universe I bet. Thanks for sharing this one...indeed tis a wonderful write :)

It is a matter of perspective. How you see a person. People tag someone who is different than the rest as a lunatic. It is just that that he feels and thinks differently.

My pleasure...Any time...:)......................
A bit too reminiscent of pink Floyd for my full attention. Not to despair, I enjoy the overall idea you conveyed. But you can't avoid the fact that the set up line for most of your stanza's is the same as a song written cryptically about a newspaper by a band that was popular before you or I were born.

Thank you Pryde...I'm glad that you liked it.
An intriguing read, we all struggle with lunacy from time to time. I wonder which is the mask, the insanity or the real truth?
