Take me to the place

Take me to the place

A Poem by Champagne

Take me to the seldom vaults, where
A lonely cardinal sings, where burnt logs
Extinguish in rapid smoke.
Take me by the hand
There, there, there
where my, baby me, and years
and tiny footsteps settled on the couch.

Take me back there.

Or, take me through the streets
Between posts, daily chores, the mailmen and such
One space on a crowded bench
Rests with itself. One word, one song
Echoes through the lobe
Before the surgeries came true.

You and I can sit for a while.

Perhaps, you and I can walk back
Through the early visions
Through the smells of cigarettes and coke
And the sights of morning dawn
And breathe, for a while
You and I can do such things
And be done. Gone. To other people
People with other lives.

But, take me back one more time
In a screaming test, in a screaming test
In a screaming test.
Scream, for once
By the hand, the foot, the face
Let us get back, where started, it.
