"

Super short short story. Sudden fiction.

"

Lifting her soft eyes up to mine, she answered me, "A thousand days of roses".

"Done"

It was the single easiest word I'd ever spoken, the quickest promise I'd ever made with the intent to keep.

The cashmere of her sweater, between my hand and the small of her back, glided smoothly over her skin as she returned into my embrace.

My right hand, pressing gently into the silk of her hair, followed as she returned her face to crook of my shoulder and neck.

I felt her breath, warm, roll along my skin.

The slow, slow pace of the moments.  It was this moment, and this moment and this...  when I let go, all these moments will be over.

She broke first, pushing away from my body.

I stopped her at the end of my reach, holding her at the ends of my arms. I looked for one more moment.  Her eyes.  Her nose.  Her lips I knew so soft.

Then she was free.

She turned toward her car, slid down into the drivers seat, shutting the door - hard.

"How long?"  I asked, wanting,  "When will I see you again?"

With a sly smile, she hid her eyes behind a pair of sunglasses.

"A rose a day..."

And she was gone.
