AssumptionsA Poem by ChadvonswanBe quiet
I always assumed
my future would be assumable I pictured a big house against a picturesque valley Like a painting But when I try to paint You cant tell what from what There is no picture Colors merge and become colorless and meaningless Assuming my painting would just paint itself This blurred image, this vague dream Presenting itself to you in your minds eye There is only an absence of clarity What does one paint for When all you have to do is close your eyes and shut up The future is not a painting It isn't an interpretation of an event a day an hour a year It is now It is a photograph burning a lost thought a forgotten memory misplaced in some past a grammatical error An assumption Mistaken for a dream A picture never painted A day that never happened And even if you assume it did happen It didn't
