This guy kept calling me
sir and
asking me how I
was feeling, telling me
to hang in there.
I think he thought I
was hung-over, saying
he knows how
I feel; he's been there
before. But
the fact that
he would call
me sir
was close
to unbearable, his
formality was
uncomfortable- the old man
calling me sir.
I'm gonna have to quote Blaylock with "I'm diggin' your style."
I like to make mine interesting when i can, but it usually doesnt work out as well as yours have. The way they read aloud is brilliant.
And i know the feeling:P
But i am from the deep south, its sir and ma'am with everyone, age doesnt matter. I say yes ma'am to people younger than me all the time. Its not a formality with me its more of a characteristic of my diction. Its like... using like a lot, or saying "you know what i mean? i say sir and ma'am if someone askes me something...
Again, I'm diggin' your style. This made me think of a time when a friend's father always called, myself, and all his other friends "Boy!'. Funny thing about it though, we were all well over being mere boys at this point, so it truly felt strange. And even when most of us were like "I'm 18, sir, could you lay off with calling us that...?" He never, ever did!
Totally been here. I get "m'amd" sometimes at work by women and men alike ( more women actually which surprises me b/c you would think they would understand the trauma "mam" can cause. ) and it drives me bonkers. I'm 24 for gosh sakes. Mam is for little old ladies or fully seasoned women .. I didn't' think guys felt old being called 'sir' b/c there really is no other respectable term for a man .. should he have chosen "hey you" ?
I reside in Connecticut; that's where I do things.
i like writing things i enjoy reading. i also enjoy rejection letters.
i've had the same piece called old-fashioned by one person, and original by a.. more..
