Gild Me

Gild Me

A Poem by Chaddle
"

An Ode to the USA. I wrote this out of frustration after the housing meltdown, but I believe it reflects the current state of American affairs quite well.

"
American Dreams and Ponzi Schemes
That will be my creed!

I'll sign my soul away and then today,
I'll plant my money seed.

With this plan, I can be the man,
my culture worked so hard to breed

because I'm told life's just fine when gold and wine,
are your only things you need.

Forget health, I'll have wealth,
that I'll acquire with such speed.

and when I'm done with that journey, I'll hire an attorney
and off my neighbors' pockets I can feed.

they'll see friends and I'll see means to ends,
and in the courts they will plead.

Do you think happiness will come if I succumb
to that wonderful sin of Greed?

Hello, Chaddle! :)
Great description of some of our problems.
I have a lawyer buddy who always wears the same t shirt. It says, "the truth is a legal fiction". It's a nasty philosophy...

It really is a nasty philosophy. A merciless time to be alive.

Thanks for your read!

About
I just enjoy writing poems about little snippits of life that I find frustrating, just like everyone else. My poems do not often deal with romance. I prefer social commentary. more..
