Life's Greatest Essential

Life's Greatest Essential

A Poem by Chanel-Rosalee
"

Can you figure out what I am?

"
Open your eyes, what do you see?
I bet you see a world filled with endless possibilities.
Close your eyes, what do you see?
I bet you see a world only you can dream.
Now imagine an element that heightens your senses beyond belief.
An element so mesmerizing, we tend to forget it exists.
However, it is always there.
It surrounds us in times of great joy or tremendous tragedies.
It welcomes the new and farewells the old.
It whispers sweet nothings in our ears,
It's been around for many years.
Without it, we are nothing,
With it, we are everything.
Some days it is as gentle as a baby's touch,
Other days it is as strong as a mother's love.
It tickles our noses,
Sends shivers down our spines,
And glides across our skin, caressing every inch.
Sometimes, if you are quiet enough you can hear it,
Whispering the secrets of the world.
Other times, it makes its presence known,
Tearing down the weak and screeching out a blood curdling cry.
It's smell changes with it's surroundings, the seasons, and time.
At times it smells like home,
 Pleasant, welcoming, and familiar.
Other times it smells like a warm summer's day,
 Fresh, calm, and happy.
It's taste is weak, but it is there.
It tastes of freshness and purity,
Like that of a crisp apple, newly picked from it's branch.
Though it enlightens our five senses,
Everyone experiences it differently.
It is for you to decide how it should be seen, felt, tasted, heard, and smelt..
With that being said,
Open your eyes, what do you see?

Sudo-Dream. Great writing. I honestly haven't the slightest idea, but it has me thinking.
