They'll Look at MeA Poem by Tenten
They’ll look at me And they’ll think I’m smart Because I’ve got a lot of interest And know some stuff about some things They’ll never really think I depend on spell check Require the constant supervision Of others not of a blood relation They’ll look at me and think There is intelligence hiding somewhere In that head of hers Never quite getting that for all it’s worth I get by, by the skin of my neck Always dependent on another’s welfare They’ll look at me And see their dreams… their fears Their aspirations that aren’t for me As much as for their own conscience But if you looked at me You won’t see brights Just the light that dims every day And sparkles only in comfort nights But they look at me and see The social pressure of inequality Of prejudice and current ‘build the fence’ hate Disregarded for future generations And I’ll let them look at me Because I don’t have it inside To dispel their dreams and maybe mine © 2008 TentenAuthor's Note
