To finish my first novel, An Owl on the Moon, I listened to Sting’s “Desert Rose” no less than a hundred times… It made my mind like a flame set free in a forest… Such are the muses of my mind… What brings words alive in you?

I have a feeling YOU will be something to bring alive the words in me. Other then that, the experiences of life, and music. Like you, music. I hear a song and fall into a world so incredibly uncontrolled if the music stops I cannot continue writing unless I press the play button again. I've spent countless hours listening to the same songs, I thought I was crazy but maybe not. Then again, maybe we're both crazy?
dear Owl... my muse wakes me in the middle of a stormy night... with lines that mellow with morning light... with pen and paper the rhymes flow with a tale of beauty borne while birds fluff their feathers in inclement weather. Lovely piece of heart to heart where feelings have spoken in musical interludes. truly, Pat

I liked the rhyming inside the lines....where no one was expected it (with fiction… fantastical friction!).The personification and imagery of "morning kisses night's dark cheek" .....what a gorgeous image! Lots of alliteration in this one too....which makes the words flow easily. A bit melancholy and nostalgic. Yes, our muses are from today, tomorrow, and yesterday. They are all of our life experiences and all the people we have met along the way. Bittersweet beauty! Lydi**

The poem is beautiful. I had to read again. The amazing description took me to places and thoughts. Memories are a permanent part of us. They can sneak up on us and take us back in time. Thank you for the outstanding poetry.

My friend, you are always such a blessing for me. Thank you so much!
So I'm not the only one who uses a song or type of music to set the stage. In some cases its like flipping a switch that transports you instantly. This poem is one of your best....each line takes you to a new thought or emotion. Beautiful... :-)

Muses caught inside of dream catches at night
when its dark the sun sleeps, the moon in full glow
love and laughter rain on us in downpours of tears
heart asks soul for a dance, in love and romance
in gentle tides of emotions, charting there course.

I deeply appreciate your comments and your precious time to stop. Thank you!
I think my muse is whatever my mind is working on . I am very analytical and turn things over and over. If it keeps coming back to me, then I will write about it. And once I'm awhile it will come through dreams or just as I am drifting off to sleep. What a lyrical way to convey your inspiration to write....I loved it.
Beautiful poem--and so much to say about words. You have lovely phrases...feeling scent, sight, sound...
Any random phrase starts words in me. A story builds itself around a single sentence.
2024 is here... May we make it so much more heaven than hell... Wishing all peace on earth... Together, maybe we go the distance...
The night has a thousand eyes,
And the day but one;
Yet t.. more..
