PEACE ON EARTH AND OTHER MYTHS

How breathes vile peace… in bruises and war… and fierce death untold… the stench of souls wrenched from flesh…  vast fields of carnage thrust on a child’s eyes… smoke veiling heaven’s gates from a thousand burning cities…

Happy homes undone… torn in two…  wedded bliss marred with bones asunder… ripped bands and promises… torn like parchment…  as his fists pound her once smiling face…

Those scars cut in the shape of hearts on wrists…  blank stares from the mirror… hated reflections... screams concealed in workaday toil… dreams unrelenting and unfulfilled…

And there are songs of peace… to fill this earth of war… yet is peace even found in your own head… your heart… How can it ever fill a world so choked in power and conceit and hatred?

Are these only myths we teach to children to give them hope, when in our own lives they lie as distant legends now unspoken… unlived… undone?

Author's Note

An owl on the moon
I will go on believing in peace, yet realize with wars across the planet, families in decay, and individuals in horrid isolation, peace on earth isn’t an easy dream to hold onto. We just need it all the more...

I don't believe that the issue is with peace itself. Its been my experience that our attachment to our illusions of security is what causes our suffering. We can be certain that there will always be the existence of folks who mistreat others. There will always be war. And marital discord. Broken families. Lies. Deceit. Violence, etc...however, this doesn't negate our ability to appreciate and look toward the kindness miraculously present in the face of such horrors. We have the ability to choose how we engage the world despite painful pasts, harsh realities...To me, its about leaning into the beauty and consciously choosing not only to surround ourselves with it but to offer it out to the world. When we can do extend these beautiful offerings and simply let them go without expectation, that's when "peace" shows up. We feel it in our hearts at a core level. The objective is to savor the delicious experience without expectation. To me, this is the truest practice of non-attachment. Peace is never found in our internal struggles or when coming from a place of lack or judgement.

WHEN GOOD MEN GO BAD ..ALL THE EARTH IS QUIET...WE NEED TO SPEAK UP MORE ABOUT THE INJUSTICE IN THIS WORLD...our innocense is gone.. to believe the earth to be, good will toward Men one must look past the daily wars and actions and believe in the message we know is in Our hearts...reiterating the passage...."THE MEEK SHALL INHERIT THE EARTH."(and askthemselves the question)

You question many important things. We can protect our children for a time. The misery and hardships will come. Thank you for the amazing poetry. I believe we must be honest even at a young age.
