I want to believe in peace... I want to believe...
How breathes vile peace… in bruises and war… and fierce death
untold… the stench of souls wrenched from flesh… vast fields of carnage thrust on a child’s
eyes… smoke veiling heaven’s gates from a thousand burning cities…
Happy homes undone… torn in two… wedded bliss marred with bones asunder… ripped
bands and promises… torn like parchment… as his fists pound her once smiling face…
Those scars cut in the shape of hearts on wrists…blank stares from the mirror… hated
reflections... screams concealed in workaday toil… dreams unrelenting and
unfulfilled…
And there are songs of peace… to fill this earth of war… yet
is peace even found in your own head… your heart… How can it ever fill a world
so choked in power and conceit and hatred?
Are these only myths we teach to children to give them hope,
when in our own lives they lie as distant legends now unspoken… unlived…
undone?
I will go on believing in peace, yet realize with wars across the planet, families in decay, and individuals in horrid isolation, peace on earth isn’t an easy dream to hold onto. We just need it all the more...

I love this poem too, your imagery is so great, it was I was walking there, even could smell the smoke, and the hurt... Breathtaking!
hi,
wow, i really love this poem
I love how there are lots of ...... in between everything, it made me pause as I read which got your poem to sink in more and really hit me hard.
I too believe in peace and I feel that one day we will have it. doesn't matter how long it takes but I feel that eventually we will all come to our senses and see our wrongs and make them right :)
I think your poem has so much sad truth and created so many images in my head.
love it :D
peace :)
The brutality of the piece is fascinating...in our own "perfect" bubbles we create, it's all too easy to forget the horrors others experience in their daily lives. I will never lose the belief/dream of peace for all, even if only in my heart. Great read Craig!
I like the harshness of this piece. It shows the reality and severity of the situation on earth today. But the most intriguing part for me was when you questioned whether peace is even found in one's own head. I find this to be a potentially powerful message. The truth is that most people don't have personal, inner peace and that, I believe, is and has always been the cause for conflict in the world. To me, this question of inner peace provides a deeper answer - only if we find inner peace, will we be able to bring about peace in the world.
This would be amazing as spoken word... It would blow your mind.
I see the images flowing through my mind of the past and the turmoil. Then, a picture that is soft but clear, a dream. This tone reminds me of Martin Luther King's speech, I Have a Dream. What made it great was the hope behind it.
I loved the ending as well. A perfect note to leave us with...
Superb work!
Really gives us something to think about. Really pretty creation.
The concept was very true and the manner in which it was written... doubled its impact.
Truly heart felt.
Alone we are just small piece of the puzzle, but together we can make a difference in this world... as long as one heart still holds on hope is never really gone. It is hard to still believe and have faith but if we don't then evil wins.
When it comes to families, ruined and destructive lives will go on forever. It's like sections of a garden, some know how to grow roses while others can only grow weeds. It's depressing but it just seems to always be that way. Wars are the same. We've always had them and always will. Ying and Yang.
2024 is here... May we make it so much more heaven than hell... Wishing all peace on earth... Together, maybe we go the distance...
The night has a thousand eyes,
And the day but one;
Yet t.. more..
