PEACE ON EARTH AND OTHER MYTHS

How breathes vile peace… in bruises and war… and fierce death untold… the stench of souls wrenched from flesh…  vast fields of carnage thrust on a child’s eyes… smoke veiling heaven’s gates from a thousand burning cities…

Happy homes undone… torn in two…  wedded bliss marred with bones asunder… ripped bands and promises… torn like parchment…  as his fists pound her once smiling face…

Those scars cut in the shape of hearts on wrists…  blank stares from the mirror… hated reflections... screams concealed in workaday toil… dreams unrelenting and unfulfilled…

And there are songs of peace… to fill this earth of war… yet is peace even found in your own head… your heart… How can it ever fill a world so choked in power and conceit and hatred?

Are these only myths we teach to children to give them hope, when in our own lives they lie as distant legends now unspoken… unlived… undone?

Author's Note

An owl on the moon
I will go on believing in peace, yet realize with wars across the planet, families in decay, and individuals in horrid isolation, peace on earth isn’t an easy dream to hold onto. We just need it all the more...

This has tears running down my cheeks. I could only wish and dream for the same thing. You are a master of beauty in words, thoughts and feelings!!!

After I looked back and reflected here.. I wrote -"*One Clan"...I have edited the more harsh words about the commercialism..but I agree the story deserves to be told.. ty Craig

Brilliant and phenomenal poetry, you hit the target perfectly with this. Everything is right with this. This deserves nothing less than 100 in my opinion.

You, sir, are a psalmist. this is beautifully written, and terribly conceived.

I hope with every ounce of myself that they aren't myths and legends. Peace must exist....I feel it wash over me when I sit alone in the woods and just relax. Now, how can we get it to wash over everyone like that....everyday...in every decision they make for themselves and their charges? Hell if I know. It would take an act of God. It will take an act of God. God takes a long time to act sometimes. :/

great poem. I am in awe of the clarity and beauty of the voice here. It's a refreshing break from the tangles of barbwire in my own head. very cool.

You speak of a war behind closed doors. A war that can go on for years...and often it's the children that get bombed with all the hurt and grief. You write about horrible things with such beauty....it makes it beyond touching, almost disturbing. xo for another wonderful write.

Your write had me feeling many different emotioins, I wish this world this world was at peace with each other and among ourselves. I don't want to tell myself to understand that people do "Hate!" It's a sad world we live in. I wish we could remove all the hate and distance bewteen us that makes us unpeaceful. Your write is truthful and goes for the sentiment of the matter. SO very nicely done!

Sometimes the fight to keep a dream alive can be even more bloody than just reaching a dream. Especially when times can feel so bleak. This has so much depth and clarity to it i was left awestruck. This is sheer brilliance my friend
