I want to believe in peace... I want to believe...
How breathes vile peace… in bruises and war… and fierce death
untold… the stench of souls wrenched from flesh… vast fields of carnage thrust on a child’s
eyes… smoke veiling heaven’s gates from a thousand burning cities…
Happy homes undone… torn in two… wedded bliss marred with bones asunder… ripped
bands and promises… torn like parchment… as his fists pound her once smiling face…
Those scars cut in the shape of hearts on wrists…blank stares from the mirror… hated
reflections... screams concealed in workaday toil… dreams unrelenting and
unfulfilled…
And there are songs of peace… to fill this earth of war… yet
is peace even found in your own head… your heart… How can it ever fill a world
so choked in power and conceit and hatred?
Are these only myths we teach to children to give them hope,
when in our own lives they lie as distant legends now unspoken… unlived…
undone?
I will go on believing in peace, yet realize with wars across the planet, families in decay, and individuals in horrid isolation, peace on earth isn’t an easy dream to hold onto. We just need it all the more...

PEACE is the holy Grail now and always... Your poems are always inspiring, with a very realistic concept and high intentions
The third paragraph is outstanding Craig and The interrogations in the last lines were the icing on the cake. Thanks for posting.
This poem is very well written! I can relate completely, every verse is packed with undeniable truth. I really liked reading this poem!
Flawless job, I LOVED this poem!
This is excellent. If we don't give up on the dream, if we don't stop hoping, and if we don't stop teaching the younger generations about peace on Earth, then I believe it can happen one day.
We shouldn't give up on peace...it is worth keeping the idea alive, even in myths. Peace can happen and I think does. Not world peace, maybe not total peace within one country but peace does exist, we just have to look for it. Even two people in conflict who finally make peace with each other proves peace can happen and does exist. Never give up on peace.
this is a rare piece from you but it sits among your other gems, providing a delicate, needed contrast. i dont watch the news much because I can't stand being faced with these realities. I can't remain immune or passive to all that goes wrong in the world. i guess neither can you. you have such a big heart, my friend.
Yes, peace is a novel idea....juuuuust a tad bit out of reach. Ok...ALOT. If there is no adversity there is no prosperity. Only in a perfect world my friend and God made the world perfect....just not the people in it. Hope is a good thing.....it's gotten us all this far....right? Beautiful write as always!
It is difficult to see those visions of peace in this world...do we need new myths to give us guidance? I enjoyed reading this very much, glad I am not alone in contemplating these things.
keep believing..you only have to scratch the surface and you will see the old lady giving her pennies to the poor or a man giving his time to lend a hand, a shoulder to cry on or a loving embrace..these are backbone of our existence - these are the hope for us all..it only takes a conscious thought to become an experience..extremely thoughtful prose
2024 is here... May we make it so much more heaven than hell... Wishing all peace on earth... Together, maybe we go the distance...
The night has a thousand eyes,
And the day but one;
Yet t.. more..
