JUST SING FREEDOM

JUST SING FREEDOM

A Poem by An owl on the moon

For the world that is even now fighting to hear the song... whispering prayers...

Freedom is a song

music, melody, measures

it can’t be chained

or bullet ceased

or dead stilled

blue notes play flattened forms

tailgate trombone

riffs across rifles

ragtime, rebop and ride

a hot lick coming in the middle

bones in syncopated rhythm

crimes against humanity

skulls scream of genocide

dead in every nationside

and country tide

screeching massacres

or justice caged

all of mercy in a rage

blood stained keys

sometimes no harmonies

but time beat time

tempo and cadence in a rhyme

prisons with no trials

raped lands across the miles

bigotry and hate

stomp and scream at the tune

chorus to coda with a comp

full of insanity

song still plays

play some funk and dance a jig

cool jazz to free jazz

there’s a rhythm in the back line

beating time

cold cement prison cells

stomp, stride and swing

scat with the sideman

pattin juba by slapping time

there’s a mickey ending

when we cry freedom

freedom to love

freedom to choose peace

oh freedom is a song

don’t ever try to silence it

just sing freedom

til it’s every color

on every flag…

Ohh i read this my friend right after you wrote it..
i hesitated to comment lest not so old wounds open
and once they open i will sing myself maybe not so nice words that not all would like
Our freedom were taken forever..really we were not under a free government before
but once someone strange opens your door uninvited and takes his place
and acts like the owner of the place..you dont know my friend how this hurts
once i was on a mission to the local airport..some americans stopped me from getting in
only after hours of wait..i was furiuos ,a british security laughed to me and pacified me
he told me its your home with all the belongings but strange you are not allowed in..
i swear i felt tears and was ashamed they might fall..i will never show weakness there
frredom is very preciuos my friend, you will never know how dear it is untill you lose it
i really loved how you made a connection between music and peace and war
surly each and every has its own rhythm..really enjoyed this beautiful write
and i thank you for posting it..
lovely write..

Beautiful...You have captured freedom for a while...it's essence at least...You depict the sad truths of our world...You move every fiber of the being...profound...yes...let us all sing....maybe when all the writers in the world sing with You, Craig..maybe we'll find it ...

" Freedom's just another word for nothing left to lose, nothing ain't worth nothing but its free" Kris Kristofferson

That is a profound thought from the days when Kris was making love to Janis Joplin and running wild. The old army saying is "Freedom ain't free" meaning it costs soldiers lives to defend our way of life. I try to make it a point to always thank a veteran for their service. I really like this musical hymn of praise for freedom and the appreciation it expresses for a valued way of life. Great alliteration and expression here.

This seems much harsher than your normal style- I like it though. Love the rhyme scheme and alliteration. Great piece altogether, with much movement, as Emma put it. There's a great deal of color and music within your piece alone.

Great write!

Wicked! I love it when writing plants double sided imagery inside your mind. Beautifully horrible.

Craig, what a great poem! I love the picture used also.
All the dance moves , words used make this so fun to read, and the message is very powerful.
Hope you are well!
