I Wish Sometimes I Knew No Words

I Wish Sometimes I Knew No Words

A Poem by An owl on the moon

Then I could never hurt you...

I wish sometimes I knew no words

Then I could never hurt you…

Or why can’t I just be like

Christopher Robin to Pooh?

Saying things that give a lift

And are in this world so long overdue?

If you could only see inside my heart

That those words are this fool’s rue…

Perhaps you’d see the deeper words

All those never misconstrued…

I wish sometimes I knew no words…

Only showed each day howI love you…

An owl on the moon
I'm learning, but I still say stupid stuff and hurt people I care about... Wish I was more like Christopher Robin... "Promise me you'll always remember: You're braver than you believe, and stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think." - Christopher Robin to Pooh

There is something mysterious about this piece of writing... its essence is soft, sad, and warm; oh, how we always seem to speak words that weren't meant to be spoken! I know that feeling, and I believe it is beautifully woven in this piece. Bravo, my friend.

Well, I for one am deeply glad that you don't know no words, Craig! The frustration we feel when we've inadvertently hurt someone, be they friend or loved one, with an ill-chosen word, can be terrible. I am only now, at 55, learning that it is better to keep my mouth shut and be THOUGHT a fool, than to open it, and remove any doubt!
I feel this might benefit from a little polishing. The lines ending "this fool's rue" and "never misconstrued" seemed not to sing quite so sweetly as their neighbors; I thought "rue" was a verb. ("I rued the day...")But on the whole, your meaning is beautiful, and beautifully expressed. Have you read other of Milne's work than the Pooh titles?

That might be the case, but remember you use the written word to elevate and uplift all the time. Maybe your words get lost in the transfer from mind to tongue....

What I am enjoying about your poetry is the emotions I glean from it. In this piece you reminded us of one of the earliest lesson we were taught as a child: think before you speak. A lesson most of us have not conquered yet. Even with hard work, we still end up sticking our foot in our mouth. Along with the reminder, you connected it with Winnie the Pooh...awe. Bringing back the feelings of youth, purity and the encouragement we received from our own Christopher Robin.

I think everyone has said stupid stuff and hurt people they never mean to. But few can write such beauty about their wish for it to never happen again. This was so gentle and innocent, with your trademark flow and skill with words. Just wonderful poetry, Craigspeare!
