what is a breath?

what is a breath?

A Poem by An owl on the moon
"

inhale... exhale...

"

What is a breath?

inhale

exhale

coffee scented

oxygen untethered

gasping,  gulping, gift

panting, puffing

sighs, whispers

inhale

exhale

each a treasure

a miracle

breathtaking wonder

glimmer of a cloud

flutter of a wing

inhale

exhale

petal of a rose

filling moments

moving measures

waking

dreaming

inhale

exhale

visions

inspiration

ventilation

laughter

sobs

inhale

…exhale….

I'm trying to learn to value each breath a little more... and what takes your breath away...

And when you're short of breath, you really appreciate that oxygen rush...lol. I say this in humour although I'm quite serious...

Such lovely images that take one's breath away... Coffee brewing and a hot shower... These things take my breath away... Oh, and Lake Erie just before sunset... And floating atop a wandering current... And an October moon...
And looking into my daughter's big, brown eyes....and my son's....grey like the down of the dove... And...

You asked, yes?

Now I shall...
inhale...
exhale...

And smile at you, my poet friend, for writing with such beauty.... :-) Thanks for making me smile...yet again...

The way this flows with breaths interjected between the thoughts makes it just like a breath of fresh air!
Very nice.....how refreshing every new breath is to us as we see the beauty of life around us and embrace it!
Yes, inhale....exhale....LOVE LIFE!

Wow this poem makes me question what is a breath. Beautiful, I loved the rhythm of this.

A good lesson, my brother. Happy Birthday!

Most poems when broken up into fragments seem to be just scattered words glued together. But the small lines here seem to show how fragile breathing is, how important.
The imagery is brilliant.

I enjoyed the quiet way this poem speaks, exhibiting the simple but extremely effective beauty of such a normal, everyday act. There's peace and ease of mind that comes from something we don't even think about. You wrote this well, and as always your mastery of poetry showed forth. Excellently done.

You must be a fan of coffee? Ha. That was my first thought. The repetition is good, I like that. And then all the little delicate things you mentioned are so breath-like (can I say that?). Flower petals, the gentle beating of a butterflies wings... all, again, very delicate things. I like this. :)

What a poem! Love the format of this .. simple wording yet wonderful result, almost lilting .. this reader had to stop and think .. think and stop .. savour the pictures you're conjured up in your own special way.

A unique form, unique thoughts. Lovely, Craig.

I like the form together with the words and concept. This all works together well.

I think you are on to something with this one. You take charge of the readers breath, making them aware of their own senses. It's really great. Simple, yet masterfully written. Great job

Refreshing and beautiful. You have a great talent for going deeper and deeper into the subject you are writing about. I would never have thought about writing about "a breath". It was a delight to read, each word so simple, but behind them such beautiful imagery!

I just loved the graphic too!

I'm giving 100 for this beauty my dear friend!
