what is a breath?

what is a breath?

A Poem by An owl on the moon
"

inhale... exhale...

"

What is a breath?

inhale

exhale

coffee scented

oxygen untethered

gasping,  gulping, gift

panting, puffing

sighs, whispers

inhale

exhale

each a treasure

a miracle

breathtaking wonder

glimmer of a cloud

flutter of a wing

inhale

exhale

petal of a rose

filling moments

moving measures

waking

dreaming

inhale

exhale

visions

inspiration

ventilation

laughter

sobs

inhale

…exhale….

I'm trying to learn to value each breath a little more... and what takes your breath away...

And when you're short of breath, you really appreciate that oxygen rush...lol. I say this in humour although I'm quite serious...

Such lovely images that take one's breath away... Coffee brewing and a hot shower... These things take my breath away... Oh, and Lake Erie just before sunset... And floating atop a wandering current... And an October moon...
And looking into my daughter's big, brown eyes....and my son's....grey like the down of the dove... And...

You asked, yes?

Now I shall...
inhale...
exhale...

And smile at you, my poet friend, for writing with such beauty.... :-) Thanks for making me smile...yet again...

To note and take control of the breath, they say, is to exert control over some aspects of emotion and action and life. I hinestly never had the patience, and I truly envy yours.

:) This is taking my breath away...you teach us a valuable lesson...it's very easy to forget that we breathe and so we forget to be grateful for it....

This reminds me of a song ... it also reminds me of all the things that I love, but often take for granted. We all need to learn to sit still, to breathe, to enjoy and to dream.

Beautiful message.

It makes me happy when you have no new poems here for me to review you on..:p now don't get me wrong ,it gives me the chance Craig to delve for such gems of poems in your treasure :)..
Breathing is the very pattern of our lives, yet we just ignore it..and oh!my how we breathe these days just as catching a sip of energy drink in midst of a marathon..oh then,we are in the midst of this great marathon called life that we live in each day.I like how you begin with 'oxygen untethered, coffee scented' and then relax into more stress free 'petal of a rose'..I have written a similiar poem too..but this undoubtedly beats mine :)

Your words in this piece made me think of the song "cigarettes and coffee" by Otis Redding. I guess because "coffee scented" made me think of C.A.B.S. and I getting coffee one day and listening to that song. It was a day he and I went out just because we finally had a day to our selves and he bought the "Soul Album."

This... makes me want to quit smoking. :) Beautifully written, Craig, as always. There is much of value in your words.

i like the feel of this piece. the way you wrote it makes one acutely aware of his/her own breathing as it is read aloud; it is as if the very structure of your well-placed words creates a meditative state in which each breath becomes the focal point.....you have a special gift with words!

You work beautifully with sensual imagery. And the structure works perfectly, like smooth, rhythmic breathing. Breaths witness the entire spectrum of human emotion. I'll definitely be more appreciate when I breathe after this :)
