Courage in a cup of rice...

Courage in a cup of rice...

A Poem by An owl on the moon
"

I am inspired...

"

I look in your eyes
so empty… hungry
holding up a cup…
Once a day you come
walking for miles

through hot sun

or fierce rains…

Doesn’t matter does it?

You come for bits of rice

and a few specks of dirt…
Each grain one more breath

one more day to live

one more night

in starving sleep…

You wander off

I see you disappear

in the dust of day…
And I am awakened to
my life lived in ease
of comforts and quiet…

Meal upon meal

hoping I’m thankful

having more than I need

feeling full every day…
I am inspired
by your courage
in a cup of rice.

You say it all with this piece. There is hunger everywhere. It is a shame that in a land of plenty so many do without. We invest in adorning ourselves in life's finery's and avert our eyes to those that are thankful for just a few grains of rice. You serve society conscience well with this piece. May it jar us back to the reality of what others are suffering through.

This is wonderful. You have brought a tear to my eye with this piece. It is amazing all that we have, when you think about it, and what we could give if we chose to shave just a little of those luxuries out of our day. How much of a difference could we make in the eyes of just one child, or family. With a can of change we could change the outcome and lift the burden so many face day after day. Thanks for this write, you remind me to be thankful for all that I am blessed with each day.

I like this Craig, it's a wonderful piece. We are very like minded, you and I. I enjoyed reading.

This piece reminds me a lot of the song "world on fire" by sarah mclachlan.

Wow craig, your words always have the distinct flow of a word master, smooth and flows straight to the readers heart. and delivers a messege of conviction and gratefulness, epically done.

This is a testament to your hearts calling Craig. There are so many in this very situation...we are so blessed to have a roof over our heads and food to eat and we should really be more than thankful.
I would change the bold caps as it makes the piece look like an acrostic and takes away from its strong message...just a thought.
As always you have not disappointed my estimation of you...terrific title!!
Cheers,

Helen :-)

An awesome writing. So sad that life is like this in so many places in our world. It shouldn't be that anyone go hungry in this world. Thank you for sharing. Debileah

Yes! Great reminder to look at what we have instead of what we don't have. It's hard to imagine some other people's lives. Well captured.
