I Once Thought I Could Change the World...

I Once Thought I Could Change the World...

A Poem by An owl on the moon
"

Life happens, but we go on...

"

I once thought

I could change the world

a kid

so naïve

wanting to be a hero

help move mountains

feed the hungry

give of myself for the greater good

then life happened

and the fire of those dreams died

the winds scattered the ashes

my eyes glazed over

there I sat waiting

waiting for something to stir

in that moment

I saw her

her smile was like a sunrise

heard her whisper gently

yet confidently

“life happens, but we go on”

and her words stirred embers

I long thought cold

my mind quickened

my body grew stronger

my heart longed for another day

and now

now I think I just might be able to change the world

even if it starts by simply changing me

thank you, dearest friend

you helped me see

again…

... this is was an immense surprise from you, Craig, especially the lines i've quoted ... i was ... of course ... expecting you to participate in this contest ... and i knew that you would've written something special because we share the same dreams for a better universe ... but you simply shattered glass with this verse (poem) ... the earnestness ... the innocence ... the diffidence ... and yet the confidence ... of this verse is awe-inspiring ... with such lucid lines ... and a moving and enchanting narrative ... you've given us all an important message ... clear ... straightforward ... but more than all of that ... it's all heart ... the anatomy of a simple but substantial transformation ... and yes it begins with ourselves ... if we can't practice what we preach we might as well give up practicing and preaching ... this is a beautiful image of the theme of our contest ... yes, it is about empowering ourselves ... and yes ... that is precisely where the journey begins ... it's tough and requires a lot of courage and resilience ... but it's a step and once we take that step we only emerge stronger ... in a better position to change the world ... this verse (poem) is mesmerizing and motivating at the same time ... it inspires ... it inspires one to have the courage to aspire ... thank you so much for writing this and thank you for sharing it ...

"At some point in all of our lives, our inner fire goes out. It is then burst into flame by an encounter with another human being. We should all be thankful for those people who rekindle the inner spirit"- Albert Schweitzer

from one world changer to another- be patient with yourself, and trust in what you know to be true. I can empathize with how you felt when you wrote this. It doesn't get easier, but it does become more clear!

Wonderful! You have a way with words that makes me sit back, savor their meaning, read them again and find even more in what you meant. I love this...

What can I say...when your hot, your hot. Your writing is so inspired right now. Every piece I read has depth to it. This one is awesome in its well laid out story. It often rings true for many of us. Well done!

Oh this was magnificent!! at first I was reading and saying NOOO inside my head *you can save the world*!!! don't stop believing!!!! that was what the inner me was saying, then....

I kept reading as seen that you just had a air pocket in your heart and brain like we all do and came back
to believing again...

I still believe I can save the world, if you think too big you will accomplish small, so I start with me,, a better me.. to give you.. then you can give a better you to someone else.. the chain link can go on and on
call me naive?? fine thats ok,, but it wont stop me from believing.. I loved this poem, it shows the reality of
life and how you can overcome the darkside!! thanks so much..

I llllloved thisss! so beautifully written full of insight! sometimes we need other people to see us as we wish we could see ourselves and to help motivate us and remind us of what we have previously forgotten! Good Job!

Wow.. a writing of an artist inspired to dream again! This is divine.. wealthy in self-discovery and strength. Just because we age does not mean we have to lose our dreams.. one person at a time and starting with oneself. How can a person move mountains if they can not find the power to move themselves? If each person thought this way and felt the emotions within this writing.. this world would be a much better place. Love the message this presents and flow of passion I felt pouring out. It is strange how words can so move us.. but in the end it is "us" that makes that choice. Sometimes the simplest phrases do have the most impact too. Thank you for sharing! =)
