We Sit in the Land of the Dying...

We Sit in the Land of the Dying...

A Poem by An owl on the moon
"

Reflections on the passing of my precious mother...

"

Ringing

early morning

a chilling sound

piercing apart my dreams…

Fading

my mother

sit with my dad

in the land of the dying…

Contemplating

her deep love

her strong support

her living sacrifice for us…

Waiting

the paramedics

hear them say

nothing more can be done…

Breathing

feel so numb

kneel at her side

such peace on her face…

Looking

eyes to ceiling

hoping she sees me

senses my love one last time…

Knowing

in her last breath

that she took her first

in the land of the living…

I really liked how this poem manages to show how after a deep shock or trauma the mind, though still somewhat aware of what is going on, is very flighty and fogged. The only part that I had a problem with was where it said "My mother Sit with dad". I found it to be a bit confusing, though it is cleared up later in the poem. When I first read it I was given the impression that you and your mom were sitting with your sick father. Like I said it is later cleared up and it may have just been me, but I still recomend making it a little bit more clear. Maybe say something like "My mother lying so still, so pale". Like a description or something? Overall I really really enjoyed reading this piece. I think I will add it to my reading list. =)

This is so sad, but written very well. Great description in slipping into "the land of the dying". I think the best stanza was "Contemplating her deep love her strong support her living sacrifice for us...". I can really see the strong emotional connection you had here.
