Entry for the "What if..." contest...

 

 

That day,

not too long ago,

a thousand moments,

you felt like walking away;

it hurt to be with me…

 

And I wanted you happy,

no matter what,

but hoped you’d be happy with me…

 

So glad you stayed;

that you found a way to smile again…

 

Can’t imagine my life without you,

I wouldn’t be complete;

would always

be wanting…

 

What if you had said that leaving me

was all you needed to be happy again?

 

How could I have held you back?

 

How could I have kept you

unhappy and caged?

 

You’re my world;

all I want and need;

yet I want you happy

more than anything…

 

So what if you had left?

Oh God, what if?

What If...We all spent less time wondering "what if?", and instead wondered, "what NOW?" That sounds harsh, but it's not so intended. I speak as one who has often been driven to the brink of madness by interminably replaying the decisions of the past. The true point is, your (his?) actions were based in love, and as soon as she realizes that, the question "What If" will become moot; she ain't goin' nowhere!!

Wow this was deep!!! What if is the question that burns in my mind all the time about everything but it's always the toughest pill to swollow when you know the possibility of someone you love leaving was there!! Nice!!

what if? the question would burn in ones head for eternity. th epossible outcomes always plaguing ones mind. i liked this peice a lot, there was rhythm to it but it was like a poetic story kind of and its subject matter is something i can relate to as well as many other people. great write!

Ahhh that's a painful thought, one I understand so perfectly at this moment. "So what if you had left?", unfortunately that is a question that is still up in there air for me. I'm waiting ... waiting impatiently to find out if he'll walk away or be happy with me. How antagonizing waiting to find out if I can make him happy again.
