Breakfast in Wonderland

Breakfast in Wonderland

A Poem by An owl on the moon
"

Perhaps the Mad Hatter could teach us all a little civility in a world gone mad

"

On a most ordinary day

When hope ran silky slim

I found a dusty doorway

And in time I toddled in

Had the Hatter for company

A tattered March Hare for tea

Knave of hearts with halcyon tarts

And the Mock Turtle’s azure story

Time stood still in the corner

As we drank treacle from a well

And the Duchess made pepper soup

With a bitter strong pepper smell

Then the Queen in her robes

And the white rabbit in pants

Smiled at me and my Alice

With a purple passing glance

When the time for tea was done

I arrived at my world gone mad

Where we shoot men for sport

Perhaps dreaming isn’t half so bad...

You are magic in a world gone mad. So glad I toddled by!

Kelly, it's always a wonderland when you toddle by! Thanks, dear poet! :)
You were definitely channeling Lewis Carroll here, in all his madcap glory. This was nonsensical and fun, thanks for sharing. :)

Thank you so much, Hayley! And forgive my delayed gratitude... sometimes life happens... :)
An illuminating take on the trip down the hole. Sometimes life like just this lately...lol. A different sort of write from you than I am used to but elite and wonderful just the same. You do have a knack...

Tell me my friend, did you happen to see in Wonderland the Walrus and the Carpenter or the Jabberwock?? You have done great honor to the world of Alice with your ’frabjous’ tea-tale. Lewis Carroll would be very proud of this. Imagery, cadence, rhyme- just lovely. You make these beloved characters come alive and the unfettered imagination lives on. Yes, It is a much better world than the cruel Blunderland, or is it Thunderdome, we live in now. I read the news but can’t tolerate watching it anymore. Thank you for the welcome escape Craig, and oh yes, catch my Cheshire Cat grin before it dis...a....ppears.........

I felt like I was not yet ready for breakfast to be done. I wanted the Hatter to serenade me whilst running around the table from the Queen's card guard and the Rabbit to explain the lateness of Time's peacekeeper. Can I stay to listen as tweedle dee and tweedle dum rattle on about the wall of fall, while I sip my tea and nibble my biscuit? I would love to see the Chesire cat's new magical chair routine, I believe he has a gift for political satire scenes with those pearly white smiles and memorizing stares. This is magnificent like only you can do. I have missed Wonderland in my absence.....

Loved the use of this story as the basis for your piece. Loved the first three stanzas but found the final two dropped off the page slightly in their rhythm and intent?

Thank you so much for both your kindness and your honesty. Will see if new words will speak to me.
To escape into a make believe world and have a magical meal with Hatter and his implausible mates is the most felicitous thing do when hope runs slim and reality comes to be unbearable. An incredible tea party with extraordinary characters you have created here for us to escape to, dear Craig. Espero que tudo está ótimo com você Querida. Uma abraço.
( you probably heard about the school shooting in Suzano,( São Paulo) even though these sort of shootings are rare here, feminicídio and street crimes that claim lives are very prevalent here)
