The day you spoke of your reputation

The day you spoke of your reputation

A Poem by An owl on the moon
"

I remember...

"

I remember

Remember the day

The day you spoke of your reputation

That it was not your soul

Not your identity

It was the fabric others clothed you in

The colors others painted you in

And that now you were free

So you would paint your own canvas

Unrestricted from the fear of disfavor

In this I envied you

For I had lived so bound by others

By opinions

By judgments

By fear of suspicions

And now

Now I long too for this freedom

To find myself before I am lost

Lost in this city

Of another’s dream

So I surrender

And cling to the shore of my soul

Praying that I find the key

To my door

Within

So much joy in your words! Thank you! Happy World Poetry Day! :)
I do relate to this one..It's liberating being free from preconceived notions people keep! Cause one can get bound to the image and sometimes loses one's true identity..
Very well thought of. Thanks for sharing! :)

I am so grateful for your comments and your kindness! :)
Poignant ending. The narrative forces the reader to read the "I" statements in their own voice, lending the way for self-confrontation. As the reader, I ask myself if I've found my own key, and what colors other people has painted me. Beautiful poem!

A very profound poem... it is true that what others think of us come from a reflection of themselves, we are what we radiate from our hearts.
