Well, I suppose they are as good as any animals. Something about their eyes just screams intelligence. Heck, what not to like.
As to the poem itself,
Once more you poke at the right points. Evoking thought and emotion.
I've learned, with your poems, that it is best to read them aloud to fully let them do their work.
You have a talent, that's a given.
I wish I could give more insightful remarks, but my poetry skills begin and end with rhymes. While I can enjoy, I'm not that good when it comes to improvement.
Still,
Thank you for the read.

Thank you so much for your insights, and your uplifting thoughts. And yes, my first novel was called An Owl on the Moon. It speaks so much of my soul, living in the lonely, haunted places. And yet, I do find light in the strangest places. Wishing you such a beautiful, inspired week.
This is the first piece of yours I have read. Wow! Awe inspiring and beautiful. I live on a farm in NJ and the mist in the early morning and late at night seems like a blanket stretching out endlessly. There is really something mystical within it. Beautiful work.

Aww...that makes my heart smile!! You're very welcome!
I have two owls that perch atop my tree every fall....they carry me through wintery nights. I must ask them this year their names.....before they screech and return to the mists.. lovely as always my friend to dream the haunting of your wonderlands...my heart is always full.

May the owls confess their secrets to you before they go into winter's hiding. Such sacred, sweet thoughts to carry me. Thank you, precious poet.
There is a special sort of mournful peace feeling throughout this one. The presentation is stunning. Craig, you have outdone yourself. Lydi**

A very moving and enchanting poem. Has a surreal feel to it, something wild and ancient that we strive to reach, perhaps we make it, perhaps we don't. I really like the title too. Very impressive poem.

Craig your poetry is so lyrical that it is an effortless read. I love that line ‘holding on to the mist’ beautiful and sorrowful. It spoke to me...

Holding on to mist, a profound metaphor. One can almost see the individual trying to prolong the enviable.
