In my House

I was sitting in the back yard of my old house watching my daughters play.... brought back a lot of memories and feelings of how life was before my divorce. I sat there and cried as I typed this poem

In this house are many memories
Good and bad but they are mine
Memories of love, family and pain
Memories of a once gratifying time

Home is where the heart is

I guess my heart is still here
Even though I don't call it home
My kids and my heart rest here

You could say I'm missing out
On a life that once made me proud
Tears fall from my depressed eyes
My world covered by a dark cloud

Someday I will find that happiness
That once filled my heart with delight
I cry as I watch my daughter's play
And realize the happiness in my sight

You'll find that happiness that you're looking for. Just keep your chin up and keep being a good daddy to those girls. Lead by example and persevere. It is often during times of struggle that we find our true happiness and realize that everything you need is in front of you. I love your writing!!

Sometimes it takes awhile to figure out just where our hearts lie. Even if it is right at our feet. Or in front of our eyes.

No doubt you are a better father than you realize. We all have had pain big enough to blind us and hold our hearts hostage. My children are furry and remind me during times like this just how blessed I am.

This is a beautiful piece, Aaron. The painful tears and the joy of still having your beloved daughters around are mixed in a tragedy of life. Right when the pain seems unbearable, that happiness comes to you with a soft touch. I'm sorry to know that you're divorced. I hear ya.... I moved to a new house... actually moved in Friday. It's out in the country so I can't get comcast high speed I can only get satellite high speed and it's like 50 bucks for ten gb. so needless to say I didn't get it :( I use my phone as a hot spot so I am on much less also
