The Sharpness of this Blade

This is about a person I know who was/is a cutter

  Take this blade and slice just a bit

  The dripping blood provides a rush

  Provides an escape from the truth of life

  If I cut too deep, dreams would be crushed

  My mind drifts slowly into oblivion

  My soul rests free from the trap of my mind

  I hold my breath to slow my heart

  Escape is what I have been waiting to find

  I slit my wrist to ease my pain

  My soul is broken, cant hide the tears 

  If anyone knew they would say I’m insane

  To cut is easier than dealing with my fears

  With this blade I set myself free

  No one else will see my sins

  Shame covered up by a smile on my face

  Until the day I slip and this blade wins

This captures the thoughts when you do it and after. Not so much the fear of slipping up with the blade but the shear pain of facing what we fear. Then to get away from the emotional pain, we create a different kind of pain in which to focus and somehow I feel as of you were able insert that all in this one poem. Very good. An amazing piece:)

Thank you very much Angela. I had the fear of slipping part because the person I wrote this about once told me how she accidentally went to deep or something and was scared to death she actually hurt herself. I am glad you liked it and found that it is close to the real pain shared by people :)

Raw and painful to read :(. I feel deep sadness and empathy for those who cut themselves, unable to find a way to heal themselves more spiritually.

I agree... it's definitely a dark side of life. I compare it to drug use... using it for the same reasons and that's to temporarily find ways to hide the pain. Thanks for the review it's always nice to see you on here :)

Ughhh that is such a sad way to deal with emotional pain. your poem captured the struggle and the need to leave "numbness" at the expense of self-harm. poignant and sad...

It is a very sad and dark topic... one that I believe is a bigger problem than most think it is. I know or knew a few younger girls that did it. Kept it covered with wrist bands or wore long sleeves. One I was close to and I asked why she did it her response was that sometimes she just can't deal with all her thoughts and being lonely and at night when its just her alone in her room she will take a blade and cut... the relief just provides a numbing feeling much like doing drugs would. When she was caught and confronted about it.. she moved to cutting her thighs where no one could see the cuts. Crazy world.

Yeah popular amongst teens... kind of sad. Have you ever seen documentary called Children Underground? Look it up it's crazy

There are many ways of breaking out of depression or a problem and cutting is not one of them.
This poem, I think it really grabs what a person who cut thinks, that it's going to make them any good.
Another great but sad poem Aaron, its too bad people don't realize that there are a thousand more ways to feel happy

Exactly Lizardo... cutting is only a temporary release much like doing drugs. It doesn't get you to a better place mentally or serve as any positive in your life... plus there is always the risk of cutting too deep.

Exactly, I wish there could be a way to make these people come back to earth, they're just adding more and more pain to them

Yeah whats even crazier is that most the time you don't know it's going on and I see it more and more with younger people. 12 and 13 years old girls and I look at their arms and it's like wow... never would have thought. But I guess when you get to that dark place and you are all alone thats when they cut and feel most alive.

I knew a close friend of mine in high school who did this. I tried to help the best that I could with being there for them, but it could only help to a certain extent. She's with someone and has kids now. I haven't talked with her in quite some time, but I think about her often and hope that she's in a better state of mind now. You captured this way of thinking perfectly in this write as she used to tell me the same things.

I have known a few people that either have done it including at one point my little sister. It's crazy but I would compare it to doing drugs... any way to get relief from the thoughts or pain they are going through.

Let me tell you, I was in a very bad place in life after my divorce, but by
the grace of God, I'm doing well. So I understand tough times, by the way

Thanks for the review... fortunately I have never experienced this and I know for those that do it is a constant struggle to find relief from their thoughts. A very difficult topic to understand in my opinion if you don't understand what the thoughts are the provide the release from cutting... I try my best to understand
