Heaven and Hell

Heaven and Hell

A Poem by AaronFreitas
"

Just some thoughts

"

Is Heaven real or make believe?

Is it a place that I’ll ever see?

Life with no sins where souls rest free

Will Heaven be a home for me?

Is Hell imaginary or is it real?

A home for those that like to kill

Life where souls are free to steal

Will Hell be a fire that I feel?

At times I question why we exist

In a world where sin is impossible to resist

They say for our sins Jesus died

So we can be forgiven for sins in our lives

What if God gave up on us a long time ago?

Started all over in a world we don’t know

And when we die there’s nowhere to go

No Heavens above, no Hell below

There’s really no way to ever tell

If there is a Heaven or Hell

I still choose to keep my faith

Hoping to one day find Heaven's gates

You wrote what everybody asks themselves. Is there an after-life beyond this world? Do we go to Heaven or Hell? What if there is no such thing and we just disappear into thin air. And that's it. But we hope and wish and pray that this is not the end. You asked and said it all. And with a nice flow too.

I love the stanza what if god gave up on us and formed another world. What a creative way of thinking. Cool outlook, I like.

Wow Aaron. This piece is really amazing. These are some great thoughts and questions. We all go through this at some point, I believe. I really did for a while. I even swore off God for afew years. But I came back to him, was baptized a few years ago, and then last year, laying in my hospital bed, I saw Jesus. I knew right then and there, that although I may sin everday ( and sometimes it's alot) he's there no matter what. And he's waiting on us all. All we have to do is believe. Give our heart over fully adn you're seat next to his throne is guarenteed!
Wonderful job sweetheart. I feel, as your bestie (tehe), it's my duty to inform you, that you are AMAZING! Just sayin!

Really great piece! I can definitely relate, as a Christian I've had my share of questions. I think this shows that a lot of us do sometimes. But for me, God always reminds me that He's around and He loves us - He hasn't given up on us yet!

Very true. And no problem. :)
Great piece aaron! Liked every bit of the questioning you used, its so human to ask such questions but we are somehow at times so socially stigmatized to even entertain the thought. I liked the 3rd last stanza particularly. An "if" situation that questions how God might have already judged us for how we have been and moved on to another. Amazing work! :) Cheers

The struggle is relatable man, no wonder people loved it :) keep at it!
I was reading another writer's piece and saw this pop out on the side bar. I was instantly drawn to it. The title is straight forward. It is what it is. No in between; Purgatory or second chance. The chosen photo that accompanied the piece really drives the reader's imagination and thoughts into high gear. Sort of jive the brain if this is a reality check, an imminent threat to my well being or is my future and eternal destiny is at stakes if we believe in after life and not all in the here and now is all to it. The title is plain and simple and straight forward. The title and the photo could really be the message. " Which one you want ? " Smoking or Non Smoking ? "

First stanza - the author started his line with a question of an existence of such glorious place. Although I think it could be written down in free verse. He chose to pen the piece in rhyme scheme. Making it a bit technical and traditional writing style which gave it a good flow and rhythm. The author starts with a questions and end the stanza with a question if he qualifies or contemplates perhaps if he is good enough to be considered.

Second stanza - A question repeated again to the existence of such forsaken place. The writer somehow states that this place is inhabited by bad people who may have killed or done awful things in life. I read a commentary that this place is full of good people as well. Self righteous people. I heard a commentary that when a person's soul goes to another life stage. Consciousness and sense of awareness including feelings are heightened not dampened. If we can feel joy and pleasure and happiness in heaven then surely we will feel the opposite of that in hell. The only downside is that we can't die again to stop the torment. It goes on forever.

Third stanza - gives the reader the thoughts that author or writer have good if not advance knowledge of Christian faith and life after death. Knows and heard about a savior and perhaps God's plan for salvation to redeem mankind from their sin. Man is a fallen being which has great propensity to do what is opposite of God's moral law and standard. Man is drawn to sin by nature and by choice. The first line of this stanza existed before the fall of man in the garden of Eden. That intimate relationship and fellowship with a holy Creator was broken.

Fourth stanza - I love the thought the wording and the simple pondering of this stanza. I young minster told me that perhaps there's another world there in our vast uncharted galaxy that perhaps people or human or advance alien civilization may exist. Though I don't have proof. I brushed his thoughts away. My reasoning was. God's words and character. When He revealed Himself in human history through the nation of Israel and through the lineage of Abraham. He is focused there. If there's another world there just like earth and also revealing Himself there. Then His love and affection to us and to man is not focus and its divided and not intense. His unconditional love to humanity is not only divided but also shared. So when man, the crowning glory of His creation mess up. He made a way to reconcile man back to Him which requires a sacrifice. So He fixed it Himself. (John 3:16 and Romans 5:8) Validates this plan.

Fifth stanza - The lines were finish in perfect flow and rhythm. It was a bit confusing on the part of the reader that the writer or author didn't arrived to a more concrete or definitive conclusion. If this two place really indeed exist and our future eternity hangs in a balance. Then we can leave this thought in mid air. We can't leave one single stone unturned. I look at the definition of faith. If our belief can send us through either one of this door or place. Then our beliefs matters and we can't just leave it to hope nor chances or find out when we get there on the other side. Our beliefs and faith requires free will and choices. (John14:6 and John 5:24 ) The door on the left requires Reservation by act of freewill and choice. The door on the right requires Rejection by the same token.

This piece you penned is amazing and thought provoking Aaron. This one goes to my favorite. Thank you for sharing and posting it here. I enjoyed reading and pondering your thoughts and words.... The Sparrow

This is really good. I think every Christian goes through these questions at least once in their lifetime. Is heaven real? Is what I'm living for really real? I know that I've gone through those questions. But I am reminded each time through God has reminded me that He is real and that heaven is real. It has a good flow and is very well written. Well done.

You wrote a great piece here Aaron - shining a light on the question many ask I expect; if they are on the right path to get to Heaven and whether it even exists at all. It was a journey we the readers take with you and I for one was glad you got an answer that suits you out of the exploration - every reader will come to their own conclusion but I liked accompanying you on this.
Thanks for sharing my friend. (great picture choice by the way)

Amen!!! This is the way I look at it,if I believe and it not be real I will of died anyway. But if I die and it be real? Can we afford to take that risk? Very good poem Aaron And the picture brings me to memory of working at the float glass plant you could actually see imagery in the flames of molten glass

This can be a frightening topic to pen down...existential crisis, whether there is God, whether we are doomed or saved before God. I applaud your courage to write down your thoughts, and your firm stance to keep your faith, and am sure that one day, in Bob Dylan's words, you will find yourself "knocking on Heaven's door".
