Memorable Books

War and Peace: If you take away only two things from this book, and you are anything like me, you will take away the romance between Prince Andrei and Natasha, and Tolstoy’s treatise on the flow of events, and the role each person plays in such. A masterpiece, stunning, and almost unparalleled. I will add that it is not possible to take away only two things from this book…

Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy: John LeCarre’s cold war masterpiece. A brilliant, slow burn thriller. The pathos of George Smiley, his ultimate triumph, and Anne… always Anne.

Swami and Friends: R.K. Narayan’s answer to Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn. A coming of age tale that does feel incomplete at the end. Still, beautiful and charming, and leaves you wanting more.

Gone With The Wind: Rhett and Scarlett. Frankly my dear… Made even more memorable by the stunning movie starring Clark Gable and Vivien Leigh.

The mystery of Edwin Drood: Charles Dickens’ farewell tale that mystifies till this day. The most unsolveable of mysteries. A book made far more memorable by where it leaves us… would not have been half as memorable if Dickens had ever completed it, I’m sure.
