Chicago

Chicago

A Poem by Jeremy Cooney
"

A folly of a song, seeing as how I did not, in the end, move to Chicago. Was very excited to move up there for school and spend more time with family, but the Monetary Demon prevailed.

"

No more wondering over

What I’m sittin’ waitin’ for

No more tears of yester years

Thinkin’, "Oh god! Let there be more!

So fix your own damn computer

And your phone whene’er it pours

I movin in the right direction

Trains left, front-foot out the door

'Cause I'm movin’ to Chicago

Chi-ca-go, la de da

Windy City, here I come

So goodbye to my old house

Such stories beyond those bricks

If the walls could talk they’d speak

Of chaos and love and fencing with broomsticks

And goodbye my dearest friends

I’m with you where’er I be

Goodbye my one true love

Can I get over you now? I guess we’ll see

CHORUS

Au’revoir my brothers

One Sphinx of melody

Golden scarab of knowledge

And Pharaoh, strong with loving family

Goodbye my mother

You have taught me well indeed

I shall share my wisdom

While I learn and let my soul roam free
