PilgrimageA Poem by Jeremy CooneyA story song about my road trip this summer. My best friend of 8 years and I embarked on a cross country road trip this summer, and this is some of the highlights.Pilgrimage By Jeremy Cooney
Open road in the summer Not running to, not running from Rain pouring in the mountains But we always see the sun
Stop to play with ghosts in Vega Barely make the tolls in old OK Be-bop-a-lu'ing down to Graceland Then it's Nashville for a stay
Stopped for breakfast in Kentucky Had sweet tea with our barbeque Blastin toons through Indiana Hundred miles of "What Would Jesus Do"
Chorus Wheels down to USA Wheels down to USA Wheels down to USA Goin' home
End the world in a bookstore Mercenaries on the rise Monologues magnificently mesmerizing Seven AM comes as a surprise
Lost momentum in Iowa But the pyros wake us full Talkin politics in Kansas Keeper of the Plains steals my soul
Getting lost in Colorado And we're almost outta gas Where desert turns into Oasis And the roads, they aren't so flat
CHORUS
Two AM and we're out the door Seeing bats and glowing eyes Got a gig in Boulder, Utah Where the mountains meet the skies
Rocked the stage up on the mountain Back in the car and off we go Caffeine pills I start a'poppin You sink down in your seat real low
And we've made it back to Phoenix The day my brother turns eighteen. Will we look back at this in twenty years At what forty-five hundred miles really means?
CHORUS
Goin home Goin home Goin home But where is home? Goin home Goin home This is home.
