Like You

A Poem by obiajulu nwa m

I was,
but a virgin
until you poisoned me
How an outcaste I turned,
yet I despiced you not
craving your animosity

Coneheads of our times
why was I not schooled?
The approbation and callous braggado
yielded fields of fallen ones
in delusion, we merry away in foolhardiness
as we buy water to get drunk
we abhor and scoffer away at time

Die hard or die young,
no difference it makes
shame to thy honour
society ordained messiahs
shame to thy honour
as we hang from trees,
smiling,grinning in death
as flies freely kiss our swollen lips

How stupid were they, the murderers,
who kill their blood?
Men of like sufferings and still suffers
the chameleons of opulence
conscience,a ware so affordable
christened vote,a worthless veto
bartered by sweetened mere words

Now,
an anthem hummed by pauper puppets resonates
rinsing murderous hands in blood
a pawned generation, unashamedly wayward
bleached and leeched
psyched zombies
seasoned to annihilate tomorrow saints
on quiet altars

but of an insatiable lust
like you
searching for essence in a void
