Tonight, I Threw Your Necklace in a River

Tonight, I Threw Your Necklace in a River

A Poem by C.E.M.
"

It's just what I did tonight. And it felt... amazing.

"

Tonight, I Threw Your Necklace in a River.

There isn’t a soul on this earth who could tell me,

The river doesn’t do magic things.

It’s carried fish to the ocean,

And Moses to his destiny.

The river lives to change us.

To help us drink,

Or drown.

Tonight,

I chose to drown.

My past life, my tears,

The way you looked at me

When she couldn’t see.

The way I said your name.

The dreams I’ve had

Where my hand is in yours.

All that’s left of it;

A birthstone necklace.

All my time invested,

Reflected in the ruby.

I wanted to drown it all.

As a metaphor, a sacrifice.

So maybe, from the water,

I could emerge, reborn.

I bundled up the chain in my hand

And whispered the only truth I know anymore.

“You were never any good for me, anyways.”

I chucked it, hard as I could,

Right into the starlit water.

I felt my lungs expand

With the cool breath of summer night.

 And exhale

Everything we’ve ever said.

No more.

The sky is clean,

Like my heart.

Stars shine like freckles,

And kiss me like

They know I’m okay.

As a writer, you need to improve on the technicalities of the craft (when to punctuate; when and how to switch tenses), because if you're not careful with the technicalities, then the poem can be difficult to read. But, my word, is this another gem!! My - o - my! Well done!

Great strength in your words. We can grow stronger where life breaks us. Resilience in your words and a desire to move on to new opportunities. Good expression

Yes!!!! F**k You!!!! ITs time to move on!!! What a strong piece of writing!!! You made me want to shake my fist, jump up and down and get this life rolling again!!! Wooohoooo!!!! Moving on can be on of the most devastating and then positively consuming things that can happen to us. We never come out the other side weaker, only smarter and stronger. Loved This!!!

Hahahaa Huzzah!!! F**k off, boy! Thank you so much. Trying to grow from this tenfold.
Sometimes we need to drown things in order to cleanse ourselves....I am in the process of trying to do that now. A very nice poem, I enjoyed reading very much.

Loved this! When we get to that place where we realize that we MUST move on and care enough for ourselves to do so. Been there.....wonderfully done.
