Unanswered questions

A Poem by cemily

Moon drunk you stand before me.
Confused, tortured, and waiting.
You await answers, salvation, hope, something, anything,
But I have nothing to offer you.

I have no hope.
I have no answers.
Not even a question.
I had looked to you as you look to me now.
But it was a mistake.
It is a mistake.

Now I know.
I know that we both have nothing,
Not an answer to be found.
Not in the light of day
Or the dark of night
Or the starry moonlight in between.

So here we stand,
Silent.

Silent until you howl your melancholy question,
Begging for an answer
For anything in return
An echo
An answer
Anything
But the world offers nothing.

But I have to wonder
Is that what you feared
Or what you hoped for?
