Fear

Fear

A Poem by Grenouille Rousse

There it is again
That all-too-familiar feeling
Creeping up my spine
And through my mind.
Resurfacing
In the middle of the night
Hand-in-hand with darkness
Surrounding me
Not a ghost but haunting me
Following me
Blowing its silent, cold air.
It rides a fiery chariot
Drawn by shadowy Nightmares
And poisons my thoughts
With their hooves.
It is what makes me
Feel like a child
In need of something stronger
To cuddle up to
Or hide underneath.
It is what makes me
Yearn for immortality
But not for myself.
It taunts me more
With the lives of others
Than with my own.
