Staff of Life

A Poem by Bent Dragon (Eric)
"

A short allegorical poem

"
Five and three unto a bowl do go,
a damp soil for a seed to grow.
With heat the seed does germinate
A promise of life to come

The soil is worked, the growth controlled
Lest fertile earth be barren ground

Into summer's heat new life is cast
to blossom before it wilts.
In autumn the heat has fled
and left its leavened corpse.
Bread.

Author's Note

Bent Dragon (Eric)
I'd love to know what people think of the metre since I'm incapable of figuring out stressed vs unstressed syllables. There are some awkward lines as well if you have any ideas I'd like to hear them.
