Here's to Life

Here's to Life

A Poem by Joyce Marie

Alone in the dark

and these hours wage a war on my soul

I've given up on dreaming

and the life that you and I will never know

And if this hope has no meaning

then I wonder what I'm hoping for

and if our time is over

then why am I left wanting more

So here's to the future

the life we'll never get the chance to see

and here's to the memories

The only thing that's left of you and me

If time has no vengance

Then why does time kill us so fast

Mortality is fleeting

and I guess I'll never let go of the past

So here's to time

and all the songs we'll never play

Here's to the memories

We'll never get another day

Alone in the dark

and my soul is screaming for release

I've given up on believing

That I'll ever find this missing piece

and if love has no meaning

Then I wonder what I'm crying for

The time we had was fleeting

and it only leaves me wanting more

So here's to love

To the memory of you and me

Here's to your life

and the person you'll never get the chance to be

Here's to hope

because I'll always be alone

and here's to the dreams

because you're never coming home
