Eternal Summer

Eternal Summer

A Poem by Joyce Marie

Imagine bubbly, bright eyed, and innocent
A yearning to break free
black nail polish, combat boots, an untangible wildness
another time another me

Midnight by the riverside
The night was ours to embrace
boys in white tees and faded jeans
another time another place

Imagine eyes just like an ocean
Secrets in the depths
Take me to the river
another time I can't forget

Trying to beat the sunrise
on an outstretched black top road
Songs I've heard a million times
that never seem to get old

Rebellion at it's best
a blunt in one hand and a forty in the other
Though it hurts to reminisce
I still think about my boys and the mississippi waters

Remember the one
the one that stood out among the rest
a brother, a friend, and a lifeline
A part of ourselves we laid to rest

Those days are gone forever
We grew up and went our separate ways
I still say take me to the river
Take me back to yesterday

Imagine those crazy summer nights
when we had nothing else to do
Nights by the riverside
a part of me, a part of you

We were truly free back then
but we were young and blind
Our one eternal summer
another place, another time

I like the rhythm and feel of this piece. The chaos we create in our youth to form order amongst or hearts...or something like that.
