I Remember

I Remember

A Story by Joyce Marie
"

To a love lost so long ago but never forgotten. I never knew love like that before and probably never will again.

"

I remember when you loved me

and it was okay to be myself

Back when the world could not harm me

before I sat back upon this shelf

Back when the colors were so vibrant

and I could clearly see

Now you're gone and I'm still haunted

I'm losing all of me

I remember when you smiled

the sunlight danced across your face

it cascaded through the shadows

and offered a warm embrace

In a world where love sang sweetly

and never did it die

Now the world is full of weeping

and the tears will not subside

I remember summers at the river

and laughter in the sun

Back when I thought I knew it all

and I thought you were the one

The sunlight shined so bright

and the world was so alive

friendships lasted forever

and never did they die

Now the world is filled with weeping

The sky is a darker shade of gray

All these memories I am keeping

to save for another day

I remember when you loved me

you never wanted me to cry

It was okay to be myself

before you ever died
