A Love I Was Destined to Keep

A Love I Was Destined to Keep

A Poem by Joyce Marie

blue eyes

the bluest of blue

A warm smile

that speaks only truth

A simple song

Days of long ago

I was born the day I met you

I guess I never told you so

Strong gentle arms

meant to embrace

A warm kiss

brushed across my face

My heart

the half that makes me whole

A time when love spoke clearly

lost so long ago

Now there is only darkness

where there once was light

My soul it finds no solace

in the desolate night

I lay here deeply dreaming

of what was and what might've been

I find myself asking repeatedly

will true love come again

Where I once saw vibrant color

I now see the many shades of gray

I'm still waiting for the thunder

and rain to wash this all away

Your words

emblazoned in my mind

Love will always hold you

don't you ever cry

A single rose

laying where you sleep

Forever lost

A love I was destined to keep.
