"

Hello there. Who are you? What have you done with my past? What is my present? how do i die?

"

Song: Safe and Sound, by Taylor Swift

"You're going to be okay," he said. He shut the door on the girl, leaving her shivering in the small glass capsule. Tears trickled down her face.

"I... don't want to die, Uncle," she whispered.

"You won't," he said. "I'm right next to you." He got into another capsule, closed the door, and pulled the lever that was on the control panel inside.

Suddenly, their world fulled with black. And they felt sleepy... so tired. Like they wanted to go to sleep and never, ever wake up again. And then, they saw themselves, freefalling, past inky blackness. And then, a dove was gliding along next to them. Its creamy white feathers stood out against the deep black. And then, all they could see was white. And they could smell wildflowers. They opened their eyes, and saw that they were in a large field. A dark tower stood at one end, and the other was bordered by forest.

The girl yawned. "I'm sleepy, Uncle."

He grinned. It had worked. He picked her up and kissed her forehead. "Jac, I love you."

She looked up at him, and screamed. He promptly dropped her.

"What?"

"What is... oh my God. Jac, your... hair..." he pointed at her head. Her hair had turned white.

She screamed. "But your face, Uncle! A monster!"

"What is it?!" he yelled. "What is this place?"

Jac curled up in a little ball on the ground started crying. He sat down next to her. "What happened? Jaclyn? Jaclyn, please talk to me..."

She shuddered, and took a deep breath. "Your hair... it's black. And you're so pale... And when I first looked at you, I saw a hideous... monster. Just like the ones in," she sniffed, "My nightmares."

"Hey, Jac." he whispered. "Nightmares are figments of your imagination. They aren't real." He hugged her. "Jac, you're so cold!"

"I feel fine, Uncle." said Jac. I'm not... cold at all!?" She jumped up. "Oh my god, Uncle! I can't feel anything! I'm so numb!" she screamed.

He tried to hug her, but a blast of ice shot through him. "Oh... ow... ow... what was that?" he winced, bending over. She touched his shoulder, worried, but jumped back. Where she had touched, frost had spread on his clothing.

She shrieked.

"Jac! What is it?"

"Uncle..." she looked up at him. "I have powers." She pointed at his shirt.

He gasped when he saw the ice. "Jac... oh my god. Oh my god." He looked down, and to his shock, ice had formed where she was standing. "Oh my god. Jac, please... look down... slowly. Don't freak out. It's... going to be okay."

She looked down, and gasped. "I love it!" she squealed. "I can make snow!" She opened her hand. A pillar of ice shot up from the ground. She flicked her hand to the left. The ice grew like a flower, expanding.

He couldn't believe it. His little girl had supernatural powers. He couldn't help thinking back to the color experiments, where she was his lab rat. Could it be...? Did he give her powers? But then he remembered. His hair had changed, like hers, after they had come here. Was the escape dimension triggering these effects? After all, it was his last resort experiment. And to escape the mobs, it was all he could do to protect her. Jaclyn. The little girl who had shown up at his secret lab one winter night. She was his. He was hers. He had sworn to protect her, even though the age difference was five years. She called him Uncle, saying that he was almost her dad. And he was going to protect that little orphan to the end of time. Intrigued, he flicked his hand open. Nothing happened.

And then, Jac screamed, and he whipped around. A ghostly black horse stood there. Mist floated around its ankles. "Help!" screamed Jac. "It's a Nightmare!"

And then, a bolt of lightning shot from behind them. They turned around and saw a girl, no more that fifteen, standing there. She wore a black dress that floated to her knees, and she had thick dark gray hair pinned up in a bun. And then, there was a hairclip, a hairclip shaped like a cresent moon. it seemed to crackle with electricity. She had one hand out.

"Nobody move," she whispered. "It'll be alright. Just step away from the Nightmare. These things killed my mother. Now, they shall perish." She threw an invisible dagger, and then an inky black bolt of... something was thrown toward the thing, and when it hit, the thing exploded in an eruption of black mist, and disappeared.

And then, he was on the ground. The pain was unbearable, as if a piece of him had been skewered on a blazing hot rod.

"Oh my god." said the girl. "You're one of us."
