Life ApprochesA Poem by Korbyn RaguePerhaps these are just my odd thoughts But life is approaching And 2,782 high schoolers in our district Each have their own plans. It’s weird to think about About how simple everyone Is to themselves But when you think about About almost 3,000 people 3,000 plans 3,000 lives 3,000 lives. A week to themselves A week of whatever A week where you go to your family Or some of you don’t. It’s sad to think that 720 of those students Don’t have a home to go to A family to be warm with A bed to sleep on A decent life to live And constant thoughts of ending it All. When you enjoy your life, For the love of god, appreciate the hell out of it. Because a quarter of your peers cannot. They are on the streets In the rain On the edge In the night On a bench Alone Never take your good life for granted. Never throw away an opportunity To have fun and make memories With your family Because you have one Count yourself lucky That night your dad shouted at you Get the f**k over it Because that’s family And they’ll be there Your life isn’t anyone else’s A time to come together Regardless of how old you are How tired you are How much you ‘hate’ your mother for taking away your phone. Don’t take life for granted. You will regret it, And for the love of god, You don’t want to miss a moment. When you die, you won’t be thinking of what you were able to do What you were able to accomplish The time you spent with your family You will be thinking about that time in your room On your phone Your TV Alone on your bed. You’ll be lying there Regretting those moments Regretting what you didn’t do Regretting not doing something So never miss a moment Of what could be your life It’ll be gone in a flash Don’t take it for granted. Never, ever take it for granted. © 2017 Korbyn Rague |
