having my demons

having my demons

A Poem by Cece

i remember of not so distant past
i was found hiding under my covers
very deep in the night with only nightlight

the nightlight kept the monsters away
but felt they would possess my toys
heard all the noises at night as footfalls

as i was to grow the noises became quieter
but they were still there the monster on my mind
determine to confront my demon i armed myself

the flashlight was to scare my demon
and one night i was to face down my demon
as i heard the noise of footfalls approach

i jump from my bed to face the spirit of my fear
i found it to be more scary than i imagined
when i shine the light in the face i found it to be me

This is a strong narrative evocation of what it means to be a frightened kid, making shadows out to be something that they are not. We've all been through it. But this is a playful piece that ties up nicely in the end.

P.S: Thanks for reading the Star Wars piece and for adding some verses of your own - nicely continued!

Excellent tale of facing our own fears of our own selves. Reminds me of the movie 'Boogyman' which I found to be quite compelling.

Very nice.
